Baseline
QuickPlanX allows you to create a baseline by archiving core task data, providing a snapshot of your original project plan for comparison with actual progress.
What is a Baseline?
A baseline captures the essential project data at a specific point in time, including:
- Task start and finish dates
- Workdays and duration
- Work allocation
- Resource costs
- Miscellaneous costs
- Budget information
This archived data serves as a reference point to track project performance against the original plan. The baseline data can be viewed in the "Charts" report and exported to CSV for external analysis.
How to Create a Baseline
- Open your project
- Tap the "···" button on the toolbar
- Select "Copy to Baseline" from the menu
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process
How to Display Baseline Data
By default, baseline fields are hidden from view. To display baseline data in the Table view, you need to enable the baseline columns in your project settings.
- Open project settings to choose to customize the task fields
- Enable the baseline columns you want to display (e.g., "Baseline Start", "Baseline Finish", "Baseline Duration")
What Happens During Baseline Creation
When you create a baseline, QuickPlanX:
- Copies all essential project data from current task fields to their corresponding baseline fields
- Replaces any existing baseline data entirely
- Archives the complete project state in a single operation
Individual modifications to specific baseline fields are not supported. The baseline operation updates all data simultaneously to maintain consistency.
Benefits and Limitations
Benefits
The baseline feature offers several advantages:
- Simplified data management - Baseline data is stored directly within tasks
- Easy comparison - View baseline (planned) data alongside current progress
- Streamlined tracking - Focus on the most recent baseline for clarity
- Intuitive reporting - Direct integration with charts and export features
Limitations
Please be aware of these limitations:
- Single baseline only - QuickPlanX supports one baseline per project. Creating a new baseline will overwrite existing baseline data
- Core fields only - Only essential task fields are included in the baseline archive
Consider exporting your project before creating a new baseline if you need to preserve multiple baseline versions.
